Health Care

At the AAFP, our top priority is providing accessible, comprehensive and high-quality primary care for all Americans. We believe that investing in family medicine and other primary care services should be a cornerstone of any health system. That is why our physicians and other providers provide a full range of primary care services in America through both face-to-face and non-face-to-face interactions.

Achieving success in the health care system necessitates a focus on efficiency, quality and access. To do this, an efficient and effective measurement, monitoring and evaluation system must be established.

To monitor the performance and efficiency of health care systems across America, we have developed a set of metrics. These measures are derived from data collected by agencies within the federal government and can be useful to policymakers, providers, and consumers alike.

Our aim is to use this data to establish national and regional benchmarks that can be used as a guide for tracking progress toward improving healthcare efficiency, quality and affordability. These targets will ensure the United States remains one of the leading nations for offering healthy lifestyles and top-notch healthcare services.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the lead agency in America responsible for safeguarding all Americans’ health, providing essential human services, particularly to those who cannot help themselves.

HHS is a cabinet-level executive branch agency responsible for safeguarding public health and providing essential human services, such as Medicaid, Medicare and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). As such, it plays an integral role in the United States government.

Its mission is to “protect the health of all Americans and guarantee that everyone has access to essential services they need.” It is led by Secretary of Health and Human Services, appointed by President Obama with Senate confirmation. Additionally, she is assisted by Deputy Secretary and seven Assistant Secretaries.

HHS not only provides health and social services, but they also administer more federal grant dollars than any other agency. Therefore, it’s essential for them to be as open and accountable as possible. The Office of Inspector General collaborates closely with HHS and other departments in order to guarantee all federal programs adhere to applicable laws and regulations. Furthermore, as investigators for Medicare fraud and Medicaid abuse at U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia – specially trained law enforcement personnel receiving their law enforcement training from OIG investigators – receive their special training from OIG investigators at U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
